SUMMER CAMP AT ICM  top

ICM/DUS Summer Camp 2012

Islamic Center of Maryland (ICM) and Dar-Us-Salaam (DUS) are jointly organizing Quran Summer Camp at ICM. The objective of the program is to help students with learning Islam while enjoying their time off from regular school. Enclosed below please find the details.

Starting Date: June 20, 2012       Ending Date: July 27, 2012

Hours: Monday through Thursday 9 am - 2 pm & Friday 9 am - 12 pm

Summer Camp Program:

Quran Reading Camp (Ages 5 to 16)

Intensive Hifz Camp (Ages 8 to 16)

Class Divisions & Class sizes:

The summer camp classes will be divided based on students' ages and on their reading skills, which will be determined by the placement test. Class size will be limited to 12 students per class. Boys and girls will have separate classes.

Classes/Activities:

1. Concentration of specific area of study - Quran Reading or Hifz - 2 - 2.5 hours

2. Islamic Studies - 45 minutes to an hour

3. Sports - 45 minutes to an hour

4. Lunch - 20 minutes

5. Salaah

6. Field Trips - a total of 4 field trips. The field trips will be fun and exciting that will help students to enhance understanding of Islam

Fees:$450 per child (additional siblings will receive 10% discount)

Registration:May 20, June 3, & June 10 [Placement test will be held between 11 am to 1 pm]

Register early to reserve a spot. All students must attend a placement test before the camp starts.

Ibn ‘Umar (raa) reported that the Prophet (saws) said: "Prayer in congregation is better than praying alone by twenty-seven degrees." [Reported by Al-Bukhaaree and Muslim]

Details: Isha prayer time at Stonemill Elementary School is being changed to 9:15 PM effective Wednesday, April 25th.
Isha will be prayed on weekdays at 9:15 PM until the end of next week (May 4th, Friday).
Staring May 7th (Monday), we will start praying Maghrib at 8:30 PM, inshallah until June 1st.
Staring June 4th (Monday), we will pray Maghrib at 8:45 PM until July 17th (beginning of Ramadan). Isha Prayer will resume after Ramadan, inshallah.

ANNUAL GENERAL BODY MEETING & ELECTIONS  top

2012 Annual General Body Meeting & Elections

Pursuant to the General Body Meeting notice sent on May 1, 2012, please be reminded that Islamic Center of Maryland (ICM) will conduct its Annual General Body (AGB) Meeting on Saturday May 19, 2012 at 10 AM in the ICM Metal Building.

There are three trustee positions up for election. If you are unable to attend the meeting, you can obtain an absentee ballot starting Monday May 14 by calling me at (301) 520-2099 or via e-mail at rafathusain@hotmail.com. Once you receive the absentee ballot, please make sure to complete the ballot and submit it to the election commissioner (or ICM Office) in a sealed envelope bearing your signature, address, and telephone number between May 16 and May 18, 2012.All absentee ballots will be reviewed and approved by the election committee.

This information and relevant material for the GB meeting have been posted on the ICM website at www.icomd.org.

Absentee Ballots

• In case a voting member expects to be unable to attend the annual meeting, he/she can obtain an absentee ballot from the chairman of the nomination committee upon request (contact ICM Office for assistance).
• The envelope containing the absentee ballot shall bear the signature, address, and telephone number of the member and shall be delivered to the chairman of the Nomination Committee (ICM Office) three days before the start of the election procedure at the annual meeting.
• An absent voting member cannot cast his/her vote by proxy.

Quorum

• At the Annual and Special Meetings of the General Body, forty percent of the total number of eligible voting members shall constitute a quorum for the transaction of any business, provided that a majority of the Board of Trustees is present.
• If at any such meeting there is a failure to achieve a quorum, then the members present shall reschedule the meeting for a date within four weeks. The Secretary shall be directed to notify the members accordingly.
• At the rescheduled meeting, the members who are actually present, regardless of their number, shall constitute a quorum for all purposes and for the transaction of all business provided that a majority of the Board of Trustees is present.

Procedure

• The election to the vacant position of Trustees shall be held in the annual meeting by secret ballot.
• The proceedings of the election shall be presided by the chairman of the nomination committee.
• Each member who is eligible to vote (member for at least one year), as certified by the Secretary, shall have the right to vote.
•  Family votes can be cast by one member of the family present in the General Body meeting.

Counseling Session for Parents

Br. Jamil Sowe, who is a certified counselor, will be holding a session on parents working with their children at 10:30 AM in the Metal Building. Br. Jamil has held these sessions in the past and a number of parents have benefited from these sessions. There will be a Q/A session including an opportunity for anonymous questions to encourage people to discuss their topics of interest.

We strongly encourage parents to attend this session.
